Release Neck & Shoulder Tension in 30 seconds: NO STRETCHING| Feldenkrais Style

Release Neck & Shoulder Tension in 30 seconds: NO STRETCHING| Feldenkrais Style

In this short video, I will show you a super simple exercise to release your neck and shoulder tension in just 30 seconds. And this does not involve stretching or massage.

After you try this exercise and feel a change, I explain why your shoulder and neck muscles keep getting tight and you are having to keep stretching and massaging all the time, then I explain why this simple exercise can release your shoulder and neck tension so quickly without stretching. This is very important to understand.

As for how many reps, sets, how many times/day, whether you should do just one side or both sides, here’s my recommendation/suggestion:

– You can do this awareness exercise on whichever side you feel tension, but there is no harm in doing on both sides.
– Reps, sets are not very important. Your attention to your body and moving slowly are more important. You can do this exercise as many times as you would like as it can remind you and your nervous system of your habitual tension. I personally find it very helpful to do this exercise while driving and doing desk work as these daily activities are often associated with increased muscular tension in neck and shoulders.

  3. Gyros9988 on March 24, 2022 at 5:32 pm

That! I am a hobby dancer and we stretch and thats good for the evening we dance. But after that I‘m always so stiff and my body searched for the sensation of stretching but it‘s no use! With this technique I‘m calming my muscles and release tension up until the point I can train and stretch fully again

Thank You Taro. I just stretched my shoulders and massaged my own shoulders watching a YouTube Video. As I was saving the Video I came across your Video. Of Course I did your technique and it’s my right shoulder that’s in pain. My Question is because I just stretched the shoulder and then applied your shoulder to ear technique will that effect the outcome? I am quite sore in the shoulder right now and I am about to take a few Tylenol. Over 2 years of waking up around 3am in pain and not being able to get back to sleep most nights has turned me into a zombie.

I work at a circle k gas station and obviously use my arms ALOT and do ALOT of heavy lifting trash ect. Since 3/10/22 I’ve had this pain in my left shoulder between the blade and the spine it LITERALLY feels like I’m being stabbed by Micheal Myer’s lol but all jokes aside what tips would you have for this this technique doesn’t seem to be working.

  11. Lynn Black on March 24, 2022 at 5:40 pm

Here I go. Need to lower my left shoulder height. Good advice!

  12. Sam K on March 24, 2022 at 5:46 pm

The tightness in my shoulder was going up to my head causing headaches. After massage it feels a little better. But this technique helped a lot! Loosened it up more than massaging!

My one month old month stiffness just gone in 20 seconds. You are like god to me☺️

  20. EarthboundX on March 24, 2022 at 6:02 pm

Yeah, that seemed to help, if at least a bit, I’m surprised. I’ve had chronic neck and shoulder pain for months now. Used to think it was because of my old mattress, but I got a new one recently, and it’s still there. So I’m now thinking it’s either workout related, or my pillows.

  21. Twisted Wires on March 24, 2022 at 6:07 pm

This helped! Thank you for taking your time to share your knowledge.

  22. Harmonic on March 24, 2022 at 6:08 pm

This goes right along with what I’ve been learning recently about the brain and how 96% of everything we do is from the subconscious. We need to train the subconscious to do things differently or it will stick to the same habits.

  27. Old and opinionated on March 24, 2022 at 6:11 pm

I’ve been driving for three days. My shoulders and neck, if they had vocal cords would be screaming! Trying your exercise, I sat in front of the hotel mirror. I’m sitting in front of two door jams, so it was really evident that I was moving my head as well as my shoulders. So making sure my head stayed centered between the door jams, doing the exercise several times on both sides, until I could feel less pain as I lifted each shoulder. Both sides were quite tight, I will be continuing with this exercise. Thank you!

I have just discovered our videos and am blown away by the effectiveness of them! I am a massage therapist and have been practicing for 11 years. Your videos have made me want to study Feldenkrais. Thank you so much!

I took Feldenkrais classes some years ago, and indeed they are incredibly helpful. My instructor moved to Hawai and her position was never replaced, sadly. I know it helps with the least amount of effort. Thank you very much. I have subscribed to your channel and will watch your videos!
