Pisces in Astrology: Meaning and Traits Explained

Pisces in Astrology: Meaning and Traits Explained

Astrologers Austin Coppock and Chris Brennan discuss the meaning of the zodiac sign Pisces in astrology, and explain the traits and characteristics associated with people born under that sign.

Pisces is the twelfth sign of the zodiac, and it is a feminine or nocturnal sign, mutable, watery, and ruled by the planet Jupiter.

This is the final entry in our series of episodes where we do a deep dive into each of the signs of the zodiac, to help listeners develop a more detailed understanding of their underlying meaning and significations.

During the course of the episode we talk about different keywords and archetypes associated with the sign Pisces, look at the birth charts of celebrities who were born with different planets in that sign, and also compare Pisces to other signs of the zodiac.

Austin’s credentials for this episode are that he has a stellium of planets in Pisces in his birth chart.

I had to comment how true the Virgo/Pisces time comment is for me! I’m a pisces moon (Venus, mercury, Saturn in 7th) and a Virgo rising (Chiron too) and I’m constantly anxious about being late or not moving fast or efficient enough. I set alarms to keep me on track throughout my entire day lol. So funny and I never thought of those two signs opposing each other in that manifestation!

  2. Erin on March 26, 2023 at 1:11 am

Barbara Brennan, author of Hands of Light was a triple Pisces!! She had Sun Moon Ascendant + Mercury and Jupiter all in Pisces!

  3. Mickey on March 26, 2023 at 1:14 am

Why is it different charts say I am a Pisces and others say I’m an Aries. I had a birthday March 20th so it says March 17-23 is born at rebirth cusp so what does that mean?

  4. Leemythic on March 26, 2023 at 1:18 am

This is kinda crazy because I also have my north node in Virgo. I was born in 97. I also get reoccurring nightmares that I’m failing a class or that I’m behind on schoolwork despite not going to school. I always have nightmares surrounding being stuck in school not making graduation on time or not keeping up with classes etc. in those dreams I get the feeling that I’m too late and that I didn’t do the thing I needed to do on time.

I’m so glad we got Austin for this episode. Pisces is such a liminal sign it’s beyond words (a silent sign!), but Austin articulates things really well.

There’s a multiplicity in Pisces, but it’s not the intectual Gemini multiplicity of this thing and then that thing and onto the next. It’s the multiplicity of all things at once, of being here and not being from here, of intense Earth bound Venusian pleasure and transcendence back into the pot of the universe. It’s believing something deeply, but knowing in your bones that there are different things equally worthy of belief out there, one for each possible life we can live in a single lifetime, and in the end all is One. ❤

    I’m a Pisces rising btw.

Great take on Pisces! I think it would be cool if you did a series on aspects… might be harder to find ppl with certain aspects, but for example: sun/Mercury- sun/Pluto contacts and how that might manifest in the life. Then you could do moon/Mercury- moon/Pluto contacts… like a deep dive into aspects would be very cool. Just a thought!

Pisces sun (sect light) and Mercury (Chart Ruler) I think I’ll just send this vid to my therapist and save some time haha. My moon is in Leo and I’m constantly finding myself as a Pisces in Leo environments all the time. Being a leader, being on stage or finding myself the centre of attention and I love it and hate it at the same time.

  8. MJ on March 26, 2023 at 1:25 am

I enjoyed this podcast, as usual so insightful.

  9. Catarina Stella on March 26, 2023 at 1:27 am

Austin has a sun Saturn opposition!! Would love to hear him talk about it
I feel somewhat doomed with mine

  10. Sammi on March 26, 2023 at 1:27 am

Sitting on the periphery…great analysis thank you.

  11. Paula Franceschi on March 26, 2023 at 1:30 am

"Preparedness" s/b vs. "Improvisation." I guess you could argue that knowing your improvisations will be apt and insightful is equivalent to faith. It certainly made me a good living for thirty or forty years!

  12. MJ on March 26, 2023 at 1:31 am

1:38:22 Erykah Baduh is a Pisces as well. Michael Jackson had a Pisces rising also

  13. Louis Grubb on March 26, 2023 at 1:41 am

Would it be accurate to say that Virgo academically is involved with a single discipline while Pisces is interdisciplinary (seeing past the walls of a discipline and seeing the connections between disciplines) ?

  14. Kate Tracey on March 26, 2023 at 1:41 am

This was amazing – Austin your a genius – I wouid love to study with you .
I just went thru total confusion w a Pisces and I’m a cancer … this video could’ve saved us a very protracted argument …

  15. Loretta Loveland on March 26, 2023 at 1:44 am

Your guest handled your opening insult comparison to a previous guest very professionally. Yeah for him being the taller person.

  16. Who Cares on March 26, 2023 at 1:46 am

The Mercury Pisces ‘putting your foot in your mouth’ is the definition of my life. Maybe putting my other foot in there will help the first one out.

  17. Sunny Pisces on March 26, 2023 at 1:47 am

Oh my… just realized Austin and I have the same exact big 3, and also harsh moon saturn aspects. I don’t know what to do with this information now lol

  18. Trisha Demaree on March 26, 2023 at 1:47 am

With sun, mercury, and Jupiter Pisces placements and a generally heavy water chart, I see a homeless man and I see myself. I see a murderer and I see myself. I see a rich sociopath and I see myself. Same as I see myself in a loving mom or other things I actually identify with. I see exactly how I could get there and be the same way as all of them, if I let the traumas consume me. So I shut it off. I move, leave, exit, cut off, escape, whatever you wanna call it. Because letting myself go all the way would be my undoing. But I can clearly see it and understand it in others. Everyone says I could never be like that, or do that. But we all could, Pisces can just clearly see the path to it. So you say I could never be that, I say you’re so full of crap, but I know that’s just your ignorance.

Pisces credentials: natal Asc, NN, Mars. Progressed sun and Mercury there currently. Prog. Venus JUST moved into Aries last week, prog Mars is currently in Taurus…mutual reception.

  20. G CM G CM on March 26, 2023 at 1:49 am

Cancer/Moon is concerned with the manifestation of reflection impacting the personal/ Pisces, like oil, lets it ‘slide’ into the next possibility without having method wall boundaries.

  21. Trisha Demaree on March 26, 2023 at 1:50 am

There is so much to unpack here.

  22. Never Mind on March 26, 2023 at 1:52 am

I call my avoiding things curating. I curate my life- finding the good.

  23. Paula Franceschi on March 26, 2023 at 1:52 am

Just heard the rest of that list and it sure seems to me as if it was written by someone who doesn’t like or understand Pisces-ness. Extremely biased characterizations of our traits imho.

  24. Marie Louise Geleff on March 26, 2023 at 1:55 am

Nice – had to listen over several days, though. Venus/Juno/Mars conjunct at 8/9/10 Pisces 🙂

  25. Eline de Jong on March 26, 2023 at 1:57 am

Pisces sun, Aquarius moon, Leo Rising. tell me who am I really

  26. 25lillies on March 26, 2023 at 1:58 am

Austin–thanks for talking about Leonard Cohen. Moon in Pisces and that sharp Virgo Sun. He wrote such great music, Famous Blue Raincoat, I’m Your Man, Bird on a Wire, Tower of Song…the list of great songs is huge.

  27. Magdalena Valderrama Hurwitz on March 26, 2023 at 2:01 am

Tying into the theme of spirituality for this sign, the fact that the feet are the one part of the body that touches ground all the time is the reason underneath the ancient practice of worshipping and making a point of touching the feet of someone you revere, as a gift that has descended from the heavens. Hence worship of the Divine Guru’s sandals as a point of contact with the earthly realm, or among Hindus touching parents’ feet as a sign of respect, or deep gratitude.

I too have Saturn with the North node in Virgo, mine is opposing my Pisces sun and Mars

  29. Phyllis Handy on March 26, 2023 at 2:03 am

This was great! It really helped me understand my son who has Pisces moon in the 9th house with MC in a night chart.

  30. Dirt Lover on March 26, 2023 at 2:05 am

Aquarius Sun with Pisces rising. This was very helpful:)

  31. Paula Franceschi on March 26, 2023 at 2:06 am

I’m a pisces and i’ve certainly written a song called That Could’ve Been My Life. It’s on spotify.

  32. MJ on March 26, 2023 at 2:07 am

    Pisces rising…

  33. Donna Lowe on March 26, 2023 at 2:08 am

    So validating!

  34. Louis Grubb on March 26, 2023 at 2:09 am

I think part of the element of humility is not seeing yourself as superior to others; its also tied into empathizing with others. When you walk in someone else’s shoes, you can’t see yourself as superior to them.

enjoyed the conversation of Pisces/Virgo. I have a Pisces sun & Virgo moon, as well as my partner is a Virgo sun!
