This is a historic location that is open to the public for mining and finding your own crystals. We share our experience and our techniques on how to recover many beautiful gem garnets. This is a beautiful location that is family friendly and very rewarding to the rockhound.

    You should get good results if you use some plain borax in your tumbler. Beautiful Garnets, thanks for sharing!

    Awesome finds! The creek water was much higer when I was ther last May. Maybe there was some heavy rains just before.

    That’s cool you’re in North Carolina my neck of the woods around Madison if I’m not mistaken now I’m an Arkansas. Sometime and do a little dig or some prospecting. Do you live in Mount Ida I lived up there for a while now I’m done in Hot springs I haven’t found any places down here to dig but Mount Ida is always choice.     Years ago I got some garnets from NC.

    Though I bought mine, so certainly not quite the fun y’all had. Lol.

    But after I tumbled them they brightened up great. Nice maroon color.
