Another cool property of airogel, because it’s mostly air trapped in very small holes, is that it’s hydrophobic. Crush some of it in your hand, then poor water into it, and watch the water just roll off of your hand leaving you dry.

Seatbelts? Why not ductape? Controlled fire? Well it’s generally going in *that* direction.. Do not pet the animal? I’m poking it with a stick, it should be fine.
You buy all this stuff to deal with very high pressure, and then when it comes to tightening these screws, you’re like: "Half should be enough."

I work for a company that manufactures Aerogel.. CO2 is the most important piece of the puzzle. When the summer months come, and CO2 becomes more scarce, it proves to be quite the kerfuffle.. so much so that we have put expensive processes in place to reclaim and create as much CO2 on our own as possible.
I made it and ate it.
I love how he takes his time and tries to make the best product he can. He doesn’t half ass it and I love it.

I love how things in chemistry have random ass names. Like methyl hydrate is also methanol. Just to be confusing
It should be possible to mount a small mirror in the chamber to view the gel during the supercritical drying
If the aerogel was place inside a vacuum chamber to remove all the air from inside then the surface of the aerogel was covered in polymer to prevent air from going back in perhaps that might create a vacuum solid which would be lighter than air.

When you were ttrying to dry it why didn’t just try to burn it, the methanol will burn and the gases will fill up the pores of the aerogel…. Also, did you try to burn the cristals of the aerogel once they broke? just to see if they still keeping the propierties of the actual aerogel? Cool video, great job!
