Does Coconut Oil Pulling Work? My Experience After 3 Months!

Visit https://www.oilpulling.info for oil pulling studies, FAQ and my updated experience!

Does coconut oil pulling work? I have had an issue with oral hygiene and bad breath due to daily coffee consumption and decided to experiment with oil pulling!

If you didn’t know, oil pulling is a technique that is supposed to give better oral hygiene by using coconut oil as a pseudo mouthwash. In this video, I share my findings after a three-month experiment with oil pulling.

So does coconut oil pulling work? The quick answer is yes, it worked for me, and it might work for you too!

Some of the supposed benefits include:

Healthier Gums (Initially no but I only noticed it a year after during a dental cleaning – https://youtu.be/0R3WV99H7qU)
Reduced Inflammation (I didn’t get this either)
Whiter Teeth (It was a slightly brighter shade of white)
Less Plaque & Bacteria (YES, and it felt great!)
Fresher Breath (YES, it improved my breath!)

Does coconut oil pulling works?! Even though there is a lot of skepticism around the oil pulling technique… I challenge you to try it out and see for yourself. I was a doubter when I first learned about and began oil pulling, but I am now a believer after seeing and feeling the experiment’s results!

I have a crown after getting a root canal, will oil pulling make it come out? I want to start but I definitely don’t need that to happen…

There is no need to spit the oil, just swallow it. A spoon daily is said to prevent/cure Alzheimer.

i do this after brushing and mouthwash or instead of mouthwash ?

  13. Cooller on July 26, 2023 at 5:07 pm

I make a toothpaste of it, I don’t do the 15minutes thing but like 1-2 minutes each day. I mix coconut oil with pure sea salt, ground cloves, mint, chamomile, symphytum and a very small amount of baking soda. This is for my daily use, but you can add turmeric or activated charcoal, turmeric makes stains so you need after clean, and charcoal should not be used daily. Have fun

Also… you NEEEEED to use a tongue scraper… that is a HUGE game changer.

When doing oil pulling most people say to brush after. What should I brush with if I don’t want to use a fluoride toothpaste?

  17. Annie P on July 26, 2023 at 5:13 pm

Yasss, I too love this. My gums and teeth seem healthy now. It does work in breaking down tarter and helps with irritation of the gums.

  18. Rafael Pineda on July 26, 2023 at 5:13 pm

I make a combination of OIL, tooth paste , and HYDROGEN PEROXIDE.
I put it into the blender and then pour it into a pump dispenser .
It is true after about 3 weeks of regular use , you can scrape the tartar off so easy. .

Thanks for the insight. I have trouble with receding gums, bad breathe and inflammation. The dental hygienist wants over $1000 to clean my mouth. I figure a couple, fo jars of coconut oil can’t do any harm. So yes I’m going to give it a go.

I’ve been a dentist for 42 years. I’ve seen dozens of patients use this as a work around for flossing.
NO, IT DOES REPLACE FLOSSING. It’s more expensive, and takes longer. It does not remove the subgingival calculus (tartar). And that’s where the action is.
People will try anything to not floss but ultimately they will loose the battle.
    Just floss.

  22. Smidgekat on July 26, 2023 at 5:17 pm

I am ashamed to say that 7 years had passed before I realised that I had not had a check up or visit to the dentist. My dentist removed me from their list but I was very lucky to be taken on at another one privately. I was dreading what I might be told. Guess what – I needed NO treatment! My dentist even commented that I must have a healthy diet. I oil pull and floss when I remember to and always clean my teeth at least twice a day. I eat a plant based diet and try to drink plenty of water. Reading the comments on here has made me decide to commit to daily oil pulling going forward. I’m also going to look into how to do this with wheatgrass.

I pull with sunflowers oil is ok?

  24. Levi Kerrison on July 26, 2023 at 5:24 pm

Polyunsaturated fats are essential in all cellular respiration throughout the body. Cellular membranes are made from components within polyunsaturated fats, so yes great for your gums! Try getting the liquefied version of coconut oil as it contains less saturated fat and it is also liquid, so it makes oil pulling a lot easier

My 2 year old and I started oil pulling when I realized how many chemicals and petroleum was in tooth paste. And we can’t afford the organic tooth paste. This seemed like a no brainer. He don’t know the difference.

  29. Parm Mohan on July 26, 2023 at 5:29 pm

Cool I will try it. Bad Breathe is caused by imbalance of gut microbes. Try Kimchi, yogurt, Sauerkraut to increase the good microbes.

  30. Victor on July 26, 2023 at 5:30 pm

How is it any better than simply brushing and flossing regularly?
As all the benefits you sited are taken care of by simply brushing and flossing…

If oil pulling before bedtime, do I need to brush teeth after? I was just wondering because I read that coconut oil has a small amount or some form of sugar in it

  33. BadAssAt69 on July 26, 2023 at 5:32 pm

I am going to start doing it today. I like your "nothing to prove" style, very cool, very honest. Thank you.

  34. Ellen Josephine on July 26, 2023 at 5:32 pm

…how often? Once a day? Thx

  35. John S on July 26, 2023 at 5:35 pm

I didn’t even hear about doing oil pulling until a few months ago (someone posted a comment about oil pulling in a video about dental care). I am older and teeth/gums are not in the best condition (so I wasn’t looking for a miracle cure). After doing the oil pulling with coconut oil for a few months here is my perspective. It works, but moreso is the indirect benefits for someone like myself that isn’t that diligent about brushing or flossing on a regular basis. Because the oil pulling makes me more aware of my teeth/gum health and it gets me to start brushing and using an oral irrigator on more of a regular basis). Often I don’t brush twice a day (I am sometimes exhausted at night and just fall asleep). And in the morning I find putting toothpaste or mouthwash in my mouth can be very irritating (even trying toothpaste different brands with lower sugar/no sugar, etc.). With the coconut oil it is not irritating and I do it First thing when I wake up (so I am giving my teeth and gums an initial cleaning). And because of this I am finding myself brushing, using dental picks and the oral irragator on a more regular basis. I definately recommend for people who are like me, they are not caring for their teeth and gums like they should (which is brushing properly at least 2 times a day and flossing, etc.)

  36. GOD on July 26, 2023 at 5:35 pm

    That’s a huge scoop, lol

  37. Fiona D on July 26, 2023 at 5:36 pm

The thing I noticed was oil pulling whitened my teeth significantly. But I use a commercial pulling oil in the toothpaste section. It also has spearmint and wintergreen.
my periodontal issues have also improved. I’ve only been doing it for a month. I wish I had known about it bf. The oil pulling I use is. Guru Nanda

I am going to do oil pulling from tomorrow because of gum disease. I have just ordered coconut extra virgin oil.
After trying out, I will let you know.

  43. Eugene K on July 26, 2023 at 5:48 pm

My dentist said it doesn’t work

  44. Asus Dios on July 26, 2023 at 5:50 pm

Try oil pushing next. This is where you inject coconut oils in a suppository fashion .

Oil pushing is an excellent lubricant for the downside. Pro tip , use coconut shells to retain a permanent oil seal. Enjoy.

Do I do it before or after I brush my teeth?
