Today I want to cover the amazing benefits of watercress. Watercress is a fascinating plant that has nutrients, phytonutrients, and other benefits. You may want to consider adding watercress to your daily salad.

Benefits of watercress:
1. It has phytonutrients like isothiocyanate and sulforaphane, which are anticancer. These phytonutrients combined with the vitamin C in the plant can support your collagen and elastin.

2. It has zeaxanthin and lutein, which may help filter blue light and decrease the risk of age-related macular degeneration.

3. It’s extremely nutrient-dense. It has high amounts of vitamin K1, calcium, manganese, vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta carotene.

4. It has naturally occurring nitrates, which are good for the inside of the arteries. These nitrates may help make the arteries less stiff and help keep a person’s blood pressure from going too high. They may also help with exercise performance.

Water cress is amazing but always make sure it is washed thoroughly. Here in Hawaii, there is leptospirosis so washing watercress, especially is important

Dr Berg, I eat lots of wild plants and there are a host of wonderful foods just growing as weeds. For example, Curly Dock is very anti inflammatory and healing for the gut. Another wonderful plant is plantain. Both help with inflammation and have a decent cooling effect on the body, great for summer! Amaranth pretty much grows everywhere too and the whole plant is edible. All of these are easy to ID and don’t have many if any dangerous lookalikes.

Pork and watercress boil up. I chuck the cress in 3mins before serving. Still crunchy and just fantastic. If I want a snack it’s watercress and bacon bits boiled for 3mins with soy sauce and chilli powder. The broth is fantastic and you feel good after

It grows wild in the runoff from the spring behind my house. I use it everyday in my a.m. smoothies. I’m thankful for this video.
    Also good in cooking.

My baby has been eating watercress since 1yr old! Watercress is a superfood, slightly more nutrient dense than kale. I love it because of the literal water it adds and my baby loves to crunch the stalk. We put it in almost everything and we eat it just as is on the side of dishes! It is amazing!

  15. Mary Williams on July 7, 2023 at 7:28 am

My friend said that eating hydrophobic watercress is bad for because of the poop in there. Is that true?

  16. Anthony Greenberg on July 7, 2023 at 7:31 am

  28. Jeremy Dehart on July 7, 2023 at 7:54 am

God bless you for the info. I’ve been doing some studying on different wild edibles and watercress is on the list now. I also like the benefits of wild lettuce, it is one of my favorites. I’m still having trouble finding stinging nettle. I live in NC and I know we have it but It just seems like I haven’t seen it anywhere. Maybe I’m not looking hard enough or in the right places. I will find it though cause I’m very determined.

  40. guy chase on July 7, 2023 at 8:06 am

I get organic watercress fed from Hampshire chalk streams – I knew about its vitamin K content –
    I followed You since 2016/17
Excellent and vital nutritional information .
another product I use is omega 3 oil from Algae (no microplastics ).
both myself ,who has old sporting and motorcycle crash injuries and a friend who uses it have found that on days we forget to take the softgel capsules – our aches are worse .
