Taurus in Astrology: Meaning and Traits

Taurus in Astrology: Meaning and Traits

A deep dive into the meaning of the zodiac sign Taurus in astrology, and some of the traits and characteristics of people born with that sign prominent in their birth chart, with astrologers Mo, Pao, and Chris Brennan.

Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac, and it is a feminine or nocturnal sign, fixed, earthy, and ruled by the planet Venus.

This is the second in a series of episodes where we do a deep-dive into each of the signs of the zodiac, one per episode, in order to really understand their core meaning and significations.

Mo and Pao are the hosts of the Fixed Astrology Podcast:

Mo and Pao both have Taurus placements prominent in their birth chart. Mo has her Taurus Sun and South Node in Taurus, and Pao has Taurus rising with the Moon in the first house.

During the course of the episode, we talk about various keywords and traits associated with Taurus and also look at some birth charts of famous people who were born with different planets in that sign.

Some of the keywords we discussed were drawn from a Twitter survey:

Please mention or do rising signs

Okay so at 2:15:00 you are basically describing rock climbing. LOL I’m a Cap Rising/Aries Sun/ Cancer Moon with Mars in Taurus in the 5th and I’ve been climbing for 10 years. (I started climbing right around the start of my Saturn return.) This sport is all about precision, control, strength, endurance, knowing where your body is in space, and MOVEMENT. You can climb indoors now but most of the sport is done out on the natural world and spring marks the beginning of the “season” for a lot of sub disciplines!

In my experiences with my own Taurus moon placement, the things that I really am fixed on actually are based on a development of deep appreciation of that thing, whether its food, music, routine. This deep appreciation I feel is a major theme to the fixed nature of this archetype. This also relates very well with the qualities of Venus and the Moon.

Speaking of the gardening association with Taurus, Catherine de Medici (a sect light Sun-Venus-Uranus-Ascendant) created the Tuileries Garden in Paris in 1564…which has, since the French Revolution, become a beloved public park for the Parisian people. A similar, but non-angular, gardening association is present in my husband who has a 6th House Taurus stellium that includes his own sect light, the Moon.

This podcast has its good episodes. This isn’t one of them.

  6. Sania on June 17, 2022 at 6:47 pm

Awesome! Have you guys heard of Eckhart Tolle who has Moon and north node in Taurus? He teaches being in the present moment which requires embodying, feeling the sensations, looking at your immediate environment intently, listening to the sounds, spending time in nature etc.

  7. Tracy Anthony on June 17, 2022 at 6:48 pm

Brilliant, you do a great service to Astrology Chris and Co. Great timing for me, I have Taurus in my 12th house with Saturn. I got some great insights.

at 36m45s There is this Mexican architect with a taurus sun, Javier Senosiain. He integrates a lot of greenspaces within and outside of the organic shapped buildings he designs. I thing he would be a good fit for the gardening plant arrangement people

  9. Sheila Gabales on June 17, 2022 at 6:51 pm

Here because my daughter is a Libra rising with Sun and Venus in Taurus and she embodies SO much of the Venus/Taurus archetype… but the examples you all brought up are SO interesting – Marx, Kanye, and IMELDA MARCOS (being Filipino now I get where she is coming from somewhat… and FYI her son is now the President of the Philippines, eclipse season much for her?)

  10. Brittany on June 17, 2022 at 6:52 pm

Taurus moon (6th) inconjunct Libra Venus (11th). My Venus squares *all* the planets my moon positively aspects. It’s confusing sometimes.

I’m listening to this while working/shopping/doing other stuff, but OMG…listening to these taurus women is totally my happy place…I need some more taurean friends!! I don’t even know about if I’m mutable or stable or whatever…I’m an earth day baby 4/22/81. Thanks for sharing yourselves, I feel connected!! PS..I’m pretty whatever when it comes to variety, if I like something I’m getting that!! 😉

really enjoying these deep dives!! thank you so much!!

  16. AGAT3S on June 17, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Taurus has some "revolutionary" people as examples but you all also say Taurus is "unwilling to rock the boat"?

    Those are contradicting. Be fair.

The main contrast between Taurus and Scorpio is that of Life and Death, that of creation/destruction, pleasure/pain, love/anger, serenity/turmoil.

  17. K Cowgirl on June 17, 2022 at 7:03 pm

I saw a funny astrological cartoon many years ago showing a woman soaking in a bathtub, drinking champagne, with a large bouquet of flowers along side. The title was "Taurus, waiting for only the very best to arrive.". As a Taurus, I has always made me laugh.

  18. Anna Hancock on June 17, 2022 at 7:04 pm

Loved this!!!!!!! Mo gives amazing readings, highly recommend!!!

I also have the sun and south node in taurus. Mine is conjunct 1.0 degrees with mercury & venus in taurus. My sun & south node in 9th using whole house system.

  20. Lisa Smith on June 17, 2022 at 7:07 pm

This is so interesting. I’m a Taurus Sun, Moon, Mercury, and north node. Aquarius rising, midheaven in Scorpio.

  21. etheric_dissonance on June 17, 2022 at 7:07 pm

Ella Fitzgerald is a really great example of a famous singer with prominent Taurus placements: she has a Taurus stellium in her 10th. It’s with Venus, the Sun, Jupiter and Mercury. Venus is also cazimi, and she was certainly a great example of someone that exuded Taurus beauty in both voice and appearance.

  22. HabitualSages on June 17, 2022 at 7:09 pm

Speaking to the Fixed sign conversation and Mars in Scorpio – Marilyn Mason is a good birth chart example of this.

  26. Chloe kingston on June 17, 2022 at 7:16 pm

I’m an aqua sun and taurus rising/moon with Jupiter and Mars in Taurus in my 1st house. I’m a lot to take thats all I can say…I’m a living anomaly. Its a lot of fixed energy but im still flexible and adaptable to a degree. But I know when to draw line and when I do its set deadass firm because I trust my stance is based on the highest good. And with my Jupiterian nature (and cap in 9h) I almost feel its my responsibility to do so. HOWEVER, I don’t try to change anyone or preach to others about what they should do, I just lead by example; not expecting anyone to follow me though (if that makes sense).

Also Taurus stubbornness is most neccessary.. Just think about nature saying I change my mind, I’m not going to grow or produce fruit and vegetation.. that would be devastating.

  27. jenny d on June 17, 2022 at 7:17 pm

I have Saturn/Mercury conjunction at 13/14⁰ Taurus, so I appreciated all of the chart examples.

  28. Wren Angles on June 17, 2022 at 7:18 pm

Favorite moment of this episode is Chris as a super Scorpio casually bringing up Trent Reznor’s chart.

  29. Anne Kristin Wanvik on June 17, 2022 at 7:19 pm

It was said that Taurus is a spring sign? What about the people living at the southern part of the globe? It is fall there when it is spring in the Northen part of the globe?

  30. Danielle Keough on June 17, 2022 at 7:21 pm

Great episode. I really appreciated the detailed analysis of this sign, especially the comparison to other fixed signs and other earth sign. Pao and Mo are very knowledgeable and articulate. I enjoyed listening to this show and learned a lot. Thank you!

  31. Nisha Chhetri on June 17, 2022 at 7:30 pm

I think the boogie stereotype comes with the fact that how taurus loves to luxuriate in good quality things, and stuff like that, like indulgence is any object that can endure and is of really good quality.

  32. Noelani on June 17, 2022 at 7:33 pm

These brilliant young astrologers! My goodness!

  33. Geoffrey Hillend on June 17, 2022 at 7:33 pm

Very Informative. It’s Plato’s ideal forms, not Aristotle’s. I know what you mean though, I get the idea.

  34. for the love of the whippet & nijmegen en omgeving on June 17, 2022 at 7:33 pm

you are both 3 wonderful !
chiron taurus: inability to speak and express. not sure if that’s correct but in my case. also learned to love the senses (in trauma one can decide not to want to feel/experience anymore). edit: that may be Saturn blokking.
(Aries rising and chiron heavy in Taurus, Sag sun, Cap stellum)

  35. Shirley Shantel on June 17, 2022 at 7:35 pm

half my family is taurus, and as a pisces, i deeply appreciate the grounded-ness of how they feel like a safe harbour when my seas get rocky. and despite the bad rep associated with "materialistic", i prefer to think of taurus as being in the moment, and in the body. after a crappy emotional day, going home to a taurus means a hot steamy meal and hugs. taurus aunties also splurge on the best gifts for her nieces and nephews. venus’s love comes through strong in taurus.

  36. Corrina Ulrich on June 17, 2022 at 7:36 pm

Taurus is my 10th and I’m an artist very slowly trying to make a career of it. "You can’t rush art" made me laugh out loud.

  37. หฤษฎ์ สาทิตานนท์ on June 17, 2022 at 7:36 pm

My sister has Taurus rising. She is fangirling a boy band in my country, religiously hit the replay buttons of their songs EVERYDAY.

  38. zeneya talib on June 17, 2022 at 7:37 pm

I’m a Taurus Sun Libra rising and moon and I swear all of this was so accurate to me.

  39. cultofmara on June 17, 2022 at 7:38 pm

As a fashion designer with zero Taurus placements (but ruling the 6th)-
I can say that I meet many Taurus suns/rising and Taurus tenth house ….(also Libra – but that is definitely the social side)……….Dries Van Noten is the quintessential Taurus designer for me – who is known for his gardens, florals, and steady enduring vision of beauty. Watch the documentary.
He recently launched a fragrance and makeup line further extending his concepts around color/print/nature.
There are so many Taurus placement fashion designers- and this is because of the emphasis of creating in the material, sensuality, the body. I find Taurus to be the MOST body oriented of all the signs…which- as a Virgo stellium, is a huge contrast. Virgo is definitely the most cerebral of all the earth signs. Even in fashion I think about design in very mathematical /logical terms, and my Venus in Virgo is essentialist and minimalist in nature.

Great episode !! I loved the triplicity breakdown.

Taurus 6th house -I definitely want to work with my hands on physical things. Ironically in corporate fashion design I am just on a screen for ten hours a day, which is totally depressing. One of the best things I liked about design was being able to sketch by hand, drape and work with materials all day. Don’t have this anymore, thanks digital age.
