Certified Crystal Therapist, Ashley Leavy, explains the energetic difference between naturally-irradiated crystals those that have been artificially irradiated by man (including Smoky Quartz & Hiddenite).

i have smoky quartz bracelet . It’s dark in color like when I try to look at the bulb through smoky quartz . I can see some light through tiny smoky quartz .
I used my pendulam and my pendulam says that it’s real smoky quartz .
The first time i wear the bracelet . I feel strong tingling on my hands , face and chest area .
What do you think ?
THANKS SO MUCH!!! I didn’t know this, I just started to work with crystal and I think this is essencial to know it, can u make a list of fake crystals? I mean thos that we have to be aware of, besides this 2 u mentioned…thanks!
90% of quartz is irradiated at this point. Amethyst, Citrine, Green and Smoky Quartz are all irradiated. The "best" of the irradiated crystals go on to be made into fine jewelry. I have had the best luck at garage and estate sales finding older crystals that are not heat treated.
Hi, good video to share. I am sharing this with crystal lovers 😀
Most crystals and gemstones on the market are treated. I double checked my GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and my gemstone books, and yes heat treatment and irradiation are one in the same. Irradiation IS heat treatment, as stones can reach temperatures of 700 degrees Centigrade during irradiation. There is a LOT of misinformation out there about jewelry, gemstones and crystals.
Concerning dark smoky quartz for information. In Russia as in Kazakhstan and Ukraine is being found beautiful natural black quartz mostly doesn’t transparent through the light. We call it morion quartz.
As usual, men want to fake mother’s earth work, just because of an empty superficial "beauty", and they sell you as "perfected" or "enhanced" stone…what a shame.
All quartz that is irradiated by man are exposed to gamma ray sources such as cobalt 60. Gamma rays are really just very short wavelength light rays. Because they carry no mass, they cannot impart radioactivity to non radioactive materials. It will ionize aluminum atoms that are present in most clear quartz. This ionization causes the quartz to develop its smoky color. Purple quartz also gets its color from gamma radiation, but in this case, it is iron that becomes ionized.
I just received a 1lb. bag full of tumbled smokey quartz. Some is so light, it looks almost like clear quartz, some is very light brown with darker streaks in it and you can see through it, some is darker brown that you can see through, but 1/3 is almost black and not transparent. So I’m confused, is this fake or not? Why would a vendor mix fake with real? Or is it all real, or all fake?!
Question. The two crystal shards I’ve bought are very dark brown black quartzes but the bottom borders are much lighter. I can see light through them but I’ve never seen a smoky quartz with a light border. Is it safe to say it’s fake??
I am also not sure whether the smoky quartz pieces I bought are irradiated or not. When I put them on my hand, they look dark, but when I put them to the natural light or lamp, they look greenish-brownish and transparent. However, not all of them are evenly coloured from the tip to the bottom, it happens that some can be little more brownish at the top. Further more, two of the pieces look opaque in the top part when placed against the light. Can anybody help me with identifying their true nature ( artificially or naturally irradiated)? I can send the photos. Thanks.
Not totally true. I personally mined black morion quartz that does not let light in. And i have quartz that glows bright green in uv light.
Right on! Blessings!
Thank you, Ashley!
A very, very helpful video!
Pls. continue to help the crystal lovers community this way.
Much love and respects. 🙂
I remember reading that not all artificially irradiated smoky quartz is opaque. It really depends on how ‘good’ the producer of the ‘fake’ knows how to do it and how many times the person ‘puts it through the irradiation conveyor belt." I recently got this piece online from a woman who is selling away her collection and it isn’t opaque but I’m still afraid it might be irradiated. I asked her and she said the seller told her it was natural. Are there any other ways to know?? Thank you.
I bought a Smokey with fluorite on it, as soon as I held it I felt Ill. It was from China on eBay, I should have known better.
It’s a super nice crystal, I would rather have it be natural. It’s a candle Scepter and almost a perfect generator covered in pink fluorite cubes on one side. Still a nice crystal but I’m bummed I cannot mediate with it
.hey guys! i know theres a lit if fear surrounding these things and its understandable. so check this out; the way they process them doesnt allow for them to be "retroactively charged" the way you are thinking. you get more radiation from everyday activities than you ever could from fake smokies. you get a decent dose when you fly on an airplane, but not fron fake smokies. they feel dark and heavy to me so i only use them for very certain things, but these are not physically harmful. your likeky getting more radiation from your dental work, ok? lol which is crazy. hope that helps at all. if youd like, i could actually explain it all in detail
I have a faceted Citrine pendant. I was told that it was irradiated. Long story short, I got home and when I pulled it out of its’ box and held it, it just really felt "dead" as you spoke of. My question to you is: Should I keep it separate from the rest of my stones or can I put it on my altar? I will not use it for healing as it feels "dead" Thank you for the information. I found it most useful.
