Grey Aura – Zwart Vierkant (full album, 2021)

We are proud to present, in collaboration with Onism Productions and Black Metal Daily, the new album from Dutch blackened masters, Grey Aura.

Zwart Vierkant is their latest progressive exploration though literature and musical arts, which uses a base canvas of post-black metal to convey a fictional early 20th-century modernist painter’s growing obsession with abstract art and the destruction of the physical world.

Aaron from BMD spoke to the band about the new album, their creative process, black metal’s role in outsider art, its artistic freedom and stylistic ambiguity.

“The deeper we get into the writing process, the more intuitive it becomes, making it unnecessary for us to discuss our artistic direction through the works of other musicians. That is not to say that we aren’t influenced or inspired by anyone or anything, but those influences seep into the music in a rather subconscious way.”
