Found A Mountain Full of Australian Jade – Chrysoprase

Chrysoprase is a valuable rare form of chalcedony. The colour and translucency can easily be confused with Jade. In some parts of Asia, top quality pieces is referred to as Imperial Chrysoprase and some even pass it on as Jade. The presence of nickel is what gives it its vivid green coloration.

That’s cool I didn’t know that was a nick name for chrysoprase. I know it’s color fades over time in sunlight…

Those would be perfect for my bearded dragon’s enclosure! She would love them. She uses her tounge to smell stuff so I am not sure if it would be healthy for her. I wish I could find those rocks, here in the states. They are stunning.

Is this the same gemstones that when you cut them they have a beautiful ocean scenery? I am pretty sure it is. People like the slabs to make oceans and clouds and the surf and it looks exactly like a sea scape.

An old nickel mine you say? You should go again with some platinum test solution and hydrogen peroxide to see if you can find any traces. If the nickel mine is old enough they would have seen platinum as a hinderance and waste of time as well as a maintenence headache. So it was discarded .

  20. shadow red on December 31, 2022 at 1:32 am

  23. Miky Lauren on December 31, 2022 at 1:38 am

I whis go to Australia and discovered gems with you Liz create!!! I love the gems

  24. Orion on December 31, 2022 at 1:41 am

being 7 Moh’s chrysoprase is useful for flint and steel, I have driven sparks off a piece, I wish the mines would sell off that discarded chrysoprase cheap for flint and steel purposes. It’s a waste having it just sitting there and you gem hunters won’t use it as it has too many inclusions and flaws in it, which doesn’t bother flint and steel users.

What is the best color of jade? Is it dark green? Or light green?
