Digging Quartz Crystals – We Found The Source.

Digging Quartz Crystals – We Found The Source.

Last fall, I was prospecting for pegmatites in the search of quartz crystals. I found what looked to be a promising location for them and we returned later on to dig in the area to see what we could find. However, the ground was half frozen and it ended up snowing the next day putting off our exploration until the fallowing summer.

As seen in the video, we returned and did a good amount of digging and discovered the quartz crystal source. The crystals are in vein/seams that cut across the aplite rock.

I hope you enjoy this video

I was planning to go to an old barite mine again (with quartz around). I felt a bit foolish just scraping dirt away with the point of my hammer couple days ago. After seeing your video it seems i havent been digging enough! Great video(s)

I really like your videos. Wanted to be a geologist back in the early 80s but the powers that be at UNM told me I could attain a degree but finding a job in that field would require pure magic. Anyway, it’s a fascinating science and you seem to know your stuff so keep filming the fun.
