This video is my attempt to start organizing the research material I’ve been collecting on the first kung fu filmmakers. Most of the images are from my collection. The still from YAN RUISHENG is from The Chinese Mirror (http://www.chinesemirror.com/index/). The photo of Wu Lizhu as Lady Robin Hood is courtesy of David Wells at Soft Tofu (http://softfilm.tumblr.com/). The photo of Ren Pengnian is taken from an old vcd of GREEDY NEIGHBORS, and the picture of young Wu Lizhu is from “An Amorous History of the Silver Screen” by Zhang Zhen. The drawing of the Commercial Press building in Shanghai is from Virtual Shanghai (http://www.virtualshanghai.net/Photos/Presentation). The song is 兩條路上 by Zhou Xuan.
A great deal of my research is archived on the Electric Shadows blog at Kung Fu Cinema (http://www.kungfucinema.com/category/features/electric-shadows).
