In this video, I’ll show you three ways to use Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita), and Peppermint hydrosol.
These are simple Aromatherapy recipes that you can make in less than 10 minutes, and then you have three amazing and refreshing blends to use!
Peppermint Recipe #1: Peppermint Hydrosol Spray (1:04)
This recipe is so simple, because it’s pure Peppermint hydrosol. I’m just filling a 2 oz (60 ml) spray bottle with the hydrosol . . . and then I’m done!
Peppermint hydrosol smells great, and feels cooling and soothing on skin. You can use this blend to freshen up a room (even the bathroom!), scent your car, or cool yourself down on a hot day. It’s also good for avoiding bugs, since bugs tend to dislike the aroma of Peppermint.
Peppermint Essential Oil Recipe #2: Peppermint Cleaning Spray (1:56)
I have an 16 oz (480 ml) spray bottle for this recipe, and I’ve filled it most of the way with distilled water. Then I’m adding:
1 tsp (5 ml) vinegar (2:30) (I admit it . . . I don’t usually measure when I’m making this recipe! You can just add “a dash” of vinegar if you like.)
10 drops Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita) (2:59)
50 drops (2 ml) Sweet Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis) (4:31)
50 drops (2 ml) Siberian Fir (Abies sibirica) (4:56)
We want a lot of essential oil because we’re blending into 16 oz (480 ml) of water. But we’re only using 10 drops of Peppermint because it’s such a strong, potent essential oil. Too much can get overwhelming.
These oils are my personal preferences for this recipe—I just love this blend! But you can use any essential oils that are good for cleaning that you’d prefer. I tend to love citruses and conifers, so I gravitate toward essential oils like Lemon (Citrus limon), Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi), distilled Lime (Citrus aurantifolia), Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea), and Norway Pine (Pinus edulis). Get creative!
Be sure to shake it before each use, because essential oils and water don’t mix. (You can see the oils floating on top of the water at 5:26.)
I suggest making a fresh bottle of this cleaning spray every two weeks or so.
Peppermint Essential Oil Recipe #3: Peppermint Pain Relief Oil (6:26)
This is a body oil that’s useful for calming pain and inflammation.
It’s made in a 1 oz (30 ml) cobalt blue bottle, in a base of jojoba. You’ll often hear jojoba called an “oil,” but it’s actually a liquid wax and it has an extremely long shelf life. This is great, because it means you can keep this blend around for a year or so with no problem, as long as the essential oils you’re using are fresh.
The recipe is:
1 oz (30 ml) jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) (7:04)
8 drops Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita) (7:43)
5 drops Frankincense essential oil (Boswellia carterii) (8:13)
5 drops Spike Lavender essential oil (Lavandula latifolia) (8:35)
Combine all of your ingredients in the bottle, close the lid, and give it a gentle shake. You’re finished! You can use this blend for any muscle aches, soreness, or tension that shows up in your body.
I hope you enjoy these three ways to use Peppermint essential oil!
