  2. colonialclive on November 20, 2021 at 9:25 am

Stick it in water and it acts like a sponge and the colour disappears. Wello Opal is not the quality of Oz Opal

Glad you let the owner be anonymous.

Funny video. Amazing opal. I would like to know who discovered it and how the owner obtained it. I’m guessing he owns a mine in Ethiopia and some poor miners found it and had to turn it over. Just a guess.

  9. Badr Essam on November 20, 2021 at 9:38 am

Shouldn’t he preserve it in a more humidity saving thing to prevent it from cracking since it is a high humidity stone

It is from Delanta Woreda the South Wollo Zone in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. And it is not worth a Million dollars. But hey what do I know since I have been importing Welo Opal since it was found in 2008.

  21. Zachery1 Jennings on November 20, 2021 at 9:57 am

Welo…………..I mean yeah its big. Its colorful……. but it’s welo. The only value is its record size.

  26. Kezza91 on November 20, 2021 at 10:03 am

I was expecting it to be as beautiful as the eternal flame opal. Sorry Ethiopia this doesn’t come close to the Australian eternal flame black opal.

  33. Debbie Coppleman on November 20, 2021 at 10:12 am

It’s not the largest man I seen on TV in the 90s I’ve been trying to find the footage but I can’t find it but honest to god this opal in Australia was a fossilized dolphin 100% opal and not like that muddy looking piece ,the presenter of the show asked what it was worth and rather somberly replied "it’s priceless"

  34. Sorcerer Of Death's Construction on November 20, 2021 at 10:12 am

I would look at but I would be too afraid to pick it up!

  36. Stoney Stones on November 20, 2021 at 10:15 am

$1m seems a bit crazy for crazed welo. But that is still an astounding stone!

  37. eggypickle on November 20, 2021 at 10:15 am

Opals like this are funny, they’re so colourful they almost look like cheap plastic or something 🙂

  38. Sharon Leader on November 20, 2021 at 10:15 am

That is amazing. It is probably going to end up in a museum…

  42. Scrap Bongo on November 20, 2021 at 10:19 am

Love your enthusiasm and I bet those Australia miners are jealous of that huge opal. Subscribed. /cheers ScrapBongo

  43. wdwerker on November 20, 2021 at 10:19 am

Looks like it needs a lot more work done on it. So much host rock and sand . Cracks everywhere. It’s big , it’s interesting but overall it’s disappointing.

  44. Kaleb Kingsbury on November 20, 2021 at 10:22 am

Problem with Ethiopian opal is it’s full of cracks and tends to break and not last over time
