Virgo in Astrology: Meaning and Traits

Virgo in Astrology: Meaning and Traits

A deep dive into the meaning of the zodiac sign Virgo in astrology, where we discuss some of the traits and characteristics associated with people who are born with that sign prominent in their birth chart, with astrologers Tony Howard, Rosalie, and Chris Brennan.

Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac, and it is a feminine or nocturnal sign, mutable, earthy, and ruled by Mercury.

This is the sixth entry in a series of episodes where we do a deep dive into each of the signs of the zodiac, one per episode, in order to develop a detailed understanding of their core meaning and significations.

Tony’s credentials for this episode are a stellium in Virgo and Rosalie’s credentials are the Sun, Mercury, and North Node in Virgo.

During the course of the episode we talk about different keywords and archetypes associated with Virgo, and also look at some birth charts of celebrities who were born with different planets in that sign.

I gotta say that I think the "NEAT FREAK" aspect could lean more to when VIRGO is on the IC…or maybe because I have this placement ..but Im definitely a NEAT FREAK with CANCER MOON and RISING…(VIRGO IC)

I think that the helpfulness of Virgo and its association with medicine have nothing to do with the modern association with the 6th house. The helpfulness of virgos is caused by their fixing and detail- oriented attitude and by feeling satisfied when doing something useful in a good way or making something function better.
In regards to the association between Virgo and medicine, I think it derives from the fact that Mercury has his joy in the 1st house, the house of the body, and that Virgo is the earth sign of Mercury, an element that is traditionally associated with the body and physical world. In addiction to it, Virgo being a mercurial earth sign, is very willing to know how things/systems work and human body itself is a system

Hard relate to the Virgo/Sag thing. Lots of things in this square, Sag AC + Sag Neptune vs my Virgo Sun/Merc/Jup/Sat

Good discussion but the male guest dominates the female guest. Chris if you can watch that and ensure it doesn’t happen. As a woman I’m really over it these days.

    Go Virgo!

Efficiency. In regards to virgoes "doing it slow to get it right". I think efficiency is so incredibly important to the Virgo archetype. My Virgo rising husband hates his time being wasted and hates seeing anyone else wasting time. He wants the most efficient path.

Hi, this podcast was very informative just as the others as always, I learned so much about the sign of Virgo. I would just like to ask if you can send me the title and name of the author of the big orange astrology book behind Tony and Rosalie it looks like it’s a great textbook about astrology, I am very curious about that book. Thanks for your response. The key word for the Virgos I know personally is "critical" they are so critical!

I have Sun and Mercury in Virgo, but I never identified with the description of Virgo. I do not like to "serve"; I have never been drawn to "being in service" type of occupations. I definitely cannot work in customer service; I have very short fuse, and I lose my temper quickly and been known to be cross and downright rude with people on the phone. I am also not "super organized" or too fastidious about organization and/or "cleanliness". I kind of enjoy "organized mess", when the room or office looks messy and disorganized, but I know where everything is (I like that no one else can find anything in my space). Also, Virgos are stereotypical germaphobes. Not me, I despise germaphobes; never used those hand sanitizers (EVER), not even in the last 2 years (you know what I mean).

  12. Luisa on September 30, 2022 at 7:48 pm

I’m a libra rising, sun, mercury and venus and most of my books are organized by color lol
And as if that’s not enough, the books with a red or yellow cover I arrange them so the side of the pages shows, with the back on the wall, because I find red and yellow are too intense and they bother me lol

  13. Liz A on September 30, 2022 at 7:52 pm

please bring back sharing the ppls charts! I found it helpful to contextualize their relationship to the sign

  14. legingerie on September 30, 2022 at 7:52 pm

    Virgo is efficient and shrewd

  15. Tara Rose Astrologer on September 30, 2022 at 7:52 pm

Joan Jett also has a Scorpio Midheaven, which could contribute to her badass reputation.

  16. S G on September 30, 2022 at 7:55 pm

I laughed alot while watching this episode. I am a Scorpio rising for sure and definitely Virgo sun (the only planet there).

  17. Chelsea Rodriguez on September 30, 2022 at 7:55 pm

Hey Chris, I wanted to know if there’s any update to your book being available on Audible or as an audiobook?

  18. Elise Joiner on September 30, 2022 at 7:57 pm

Venus, Moon, Uranus and Pluto all in Virgo … Much time spent organising small things (even this sentence). Always on the edge of chaos and the fragmentation that comes by noticing the minutiae.

Let us know what keywords you associate with Virgo in the comments below!

  20. Sarah on September 30, 2022 at 7:58 pm

I have no Virgo placements but am irked when people conflate GMO, which involves gene splicing in a lab, with narrow selective breeding and propagation, which does not involve gene splicing. Even if a crop cannot reproduce on its own, that does not indicate a GMO. So no, bananas, wheat, seedless watermelons, etc. are not GMO. Current GMO crops are canola, corn, soy, cotton, alfalfa, sugarbeet, potato (a recent GMO crop), and some zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, papaya, pineapple, and apple. Most GMOs either withstand more pesticides or produce their own pesticides from the inserted genes.

Not a Virgo but I love my Virgo people ❤

Great job, but as a Virgo Astrologer I wish I was on this episode! Virgo Sun, Mercury, Mars, Pluto, Black Moon Lilith & South Node. I am Mr. Virgo. Eric

  23. Magdalena Valderrama Hurwitz on September 30, 2022 at 8:06 pm

My father was a Virgo — piles of newspaper and magazine clippings and editions waiting to be clipped, hoarder tendency (Virgo is also associated with miserliness, isn’t it?). BUT, he became irate when the piles were moved, saying that there was actually a method to the piles just like the podcast guests mentioned. And his favorite city, he told me when I asked, was Geneva because, he said, it was so clean!

  24. Christine Hall on September 30, 2022 at 8:11 pm

Keywords: ORDER. ORGANIZE. SCHEDULE. CALENDAR. PLANNING. HERBS. MEDICINE. EDIT. -which i jus did lol

  25. Liz A on September 30, 2022 at 8:19 pm

Also was interested to hear more on why Virgo is in detriment and fall for both benefics, maybe next time!

  26. Laura Etta on September 30, 2022 at 8:20 pm

You three really did justice to the sign of Virgo where I have Venus, Mars, and Midheaven. I want to mention master actor Michael Keaton who just won another Emmy a few weeks ago for Dopesick who has Sun, Mercury, and Venus in ♍ Virgo.

I’ve been an astrologer for 50 years and I love how you blend the classic astrologers and books from my era with the new astrological research and popular culture. Really a great series on the signs!

  27. Tara Rose Astrologer on September 30, 2022 at 8:20 pm

I organize my books by size. Libra Sun, Gemini Moon, Capricorn stellium generation (Uranus, Saturn, Neptune.) I feel like organizing by size is somewhat practical.

  28. songsong on September 30, 2022 at 8:20 pm

I’m a Pisces sun and Virgo moon. I want to STOP serving ppl. I want to be more selfish like other signs.

  29. Arial Kann on September 30, 2022 at 8:20 pm

Lol!! Laughed so hard with the customer service VS rudeness. I have Sun/Mercury conjunct (and Leo Rising) plus Venus in Virgo in the 2nd. I used to work in medical collections in their early our department (essentially round two of a billing cycle before it actually goes to the real collectors and hitting your credit report) and absolutely hated it. But a lot of what I did was help people check their bills for errors, recommend financial aid with the medical institutions, and set up workable payment plans. But if you were rude….. nope, you owe this $2000, it’s past due, and I will send you to the mean collectors with the note of being uncooperative.

  30. Sam Joseph on September 30, 2022 at 8:21 pm

1:24:53 I’m a Virgo, and I too love to make fun of myself. I crack myself up all the time doing that.

  31. Charise Anderson on September 30, 2022 at 8:21 pm

I have no public conformation/qualifications denoting my studies nor do I publicly identify as an astrologer and only offer private services, but seriously: Chris, for your Scorpio episode coming up, I’d love to contribute in some way. I can send you my chart details for credentials. I’m overqualified and it’s a goal of mine to connect with you.

PS I love this series so much. It’s less complex than some of the other within the range of videos on this podcast which makes it easier understood by all levels of learning.

  32. legingerie on September 30, 2022 at 8:23 pm

As a kazimi sun/moon Virgo I struggle with: I don’t deserve grace for my mistakes

  33. Galah on September 30, 2022 at 8:25 pm

Thanks for this episode. In previous episodes you went through how different planets express in the sign, which I found really helpful and interesting. You touched on it briefly regarding Venus and Mercury in this episode, but I hope in future episodes you run through the seven main planets when there’s time. Loving this series, thanks

  34. Megan Davies on September 30, 2022 at 8:26 pm

whenever I think of Virgo I think of Gordon Ramsay who has the Moon conjuct uranus, pluto and mars in Virgo in the 4th house. That man has made his living by being hyper critical with Hell’s Kitchen but you can see in his work that he is humble too and helps a lot of people in very practical ways like in Kitchen Nightmares where there might be a family feuding but they won’t offer family councilling but instead improve their environment and working space.

  35. AMan OntheLand on September 30, 2022 at 8:27 pm

Corn and Bananas no longer exist as their natural genealogy…in other words. Bastardized.

  36. George Diienno on September 30, 2022 at 8:27 pm

geez this explains a lot my daughter is cap sun gemini rising and virgo moon..her critical side come out on how you love her i feel like she has a script of what you should have said or done..i am scorp sun gemini rising and sag moon so now i see the square..thank God for our geminis that how we have fun

  37. Merlene Chambers on September 30, 2022 at 8:28 pm

You have just described my inner dialogue i have had with myself for eternity. The conversation between Virgo and Sagittarius. My North Node in Virgo in the 6th house and Jupiter in Sagittarius, in the 9th house. I was listening to you describe the conversation between Virgo and Sagi and i cracked up laughing, i know the script too well. Thank you for investing some time into Virgo. I really appreciate it.
