Hi Mike! There are a couple channels of Australian jewelry and lapidary artists that I watch, and from I have been able to understand, they call a pen or marker a "texter" . I don’t know if that’s how they spell it, but in the videos I’ve watched, that’s how it’s said. I took me a bit to get what was meant by "texter", but when a jeweler I watch (Soham Harrison) frequently says to "make a mark with your texter", that’s what he’s meaning as he gets his fine point "Sharpie" and makes a mark on the silver piece. 😉
Oh, and you are correct… the black inclusions are most likely tourmaline (boron silicate), although rutile can occur as black, too, from what I understand.
Black mineral is possibly hematite
