Welcome to the 31st World Championship Quartz Crystal Dig!
This annual event is held at several Quartz Crystal mines located in Montgomery County, Arkansas. This video is of the 2018 edition of the crystal dig.
The town of Mount Ida is considered to be the Quartz Crystal Capitol of the World because it is located on the largest singular deposit of quartz anywhere in the world.
There is a rich history of crystal mining in this area and the “Quartz, Quilts and Crafts Festival” celebrates the areas lifestyle. There is a gem and mineral show set up every year besides the crystal mining activities.
The participating mines for this year’s Championship Dig are Sweet Surrender Crystal Mine and Twin Creek Crystal Mine. Please contact them for more information and if you want to dig your own crystals there.
Join the Dig! Each year, on the second weekend in October, one hundred or more amateur rockhounds come to Mount Ida to compete in the Championship Quartz Crystal Dig.
This event is open to the public. The participants get to dig two consecutive days in the mine of their choice and keep all their finds. The best point and cluster of each day can be turned in to be valued and to be entered into the contest. The top five miners in the point and cluster division all receive prizes.
